Video-streaming platforms, which were once a haven for innovative and daring content creation without the constant oversight, are now facing growing political pressure. This is negatively impacting a medium already struggling with slow subscriber growth, leading to more frequent delays or cancellations of films and shows by OTT services.
Sometimes, the fear of backlash has led to productions being stopped midway or completely shelved, even after filming has been completed.
In the article published in LiveMint, I argue that the outcome depends on whether the draft Broadcast Services (Regulation) Bill becomes a law and creates a content evaluation committee, with OTT platforms maintaining some control until then.
